Encryption is the process of transforming data into a form that can only be accessed by the intended recipient. The recipient of the encrypted data must have access to the correct decryption key (password) which will transform the data back into its original form.
Your data is available in three simple steps:
We use AES 256 bit encryption. AES stands for Advanced Encryption Standard which provides high-level encryption, being selected by NIST as a Federal Information Processing Standard in November 2001 (FIPS-197 - PDF file)
In June 2003 the U.S. Government (NSA) announced that AES is secure enough to protect classified information up to the TOP SECRET level, the highest security level available at this time.
We know how important and sensitive data can be for you. Through AES Encryption, Ontrack Data Recovery provides the highest level of security to its customers completely free of charge.
All recovered data is encrypted (except Home User Service).
No. The encryption service is provided free of charge on all data recoveries(except Home User Service).

We send your password to you via email at the same time as we courier your drive back to you.
We would recommend that you do not try to remove the encryption. Once you have extracted all the required data just keep the USB drive in a safe place in case you need to access this data again. If you want to use the USB drive like normal once you have extracted all the data, you could format it and continue using it like any other USB drive.
Yes, just follow the instructions to re-mount the encrypted container.
This is normally caused because the USB drive is not getting enough power from the USB port on your computer; make sure the extra USB power cable is also attached.
We keep a secure record of all passwords created. If you lose or forget your password we can re-send the details to the address we have associated with your job number. Please note - we will not give these out over the phone.
